Rocking chairs are something we commonly associate with mothers because of the gentle rocking motion which mothers do to make babies sleep. Rocking chairs are also associated to old people who recline in them enjoying their early mornings or sunsets in the verandas or porches. Most rocking chairs are made from good quality wood and they last for man centuries. This is the reason why many families consider rocking chairs as family heirloom.

These days' rocking chairs have become very common and they come in a variety of colors and styles. There are some rocking chairs which come painted and some which have a natural wood finish. Rocking chairs can be used for a variety of purposes like in the backyard, as elegant front porch furniture, inside living rooms and the bed rooms or even in the nurseries where the mother holds her baby and gently rocks the baby to sleep sitting in the rocking chair.

The older style of rocking chairs had very high backs and thin slats and they were carved from quality wood. Antique rocking chairs are certainly worth a lot of money. Most rocking chairs came with arms and much later in 1800' came the chairs without arms. In the later 1840's, rocking chairs began being made with machines rather than by hand.

The Salem rocking chair was introduced at this time, featuring a lower back.

The Branson style rocking chair gets its name from the historical town of Branson which is in the Ozark Mountains in Arkansas. Here finely crafted, sculpted hardwood rocking chairs in the style of the legendary Sam Maloof were made. These rocking chairs are cherished as family heirlooms and most of these chairs are built with Walnut and cherry.

The best hardwood is used and the pieces are hand crafted and then assembled. Seven curved lumbar supports help to cradle your spine as you comfortable recline in the deeply curved staved seat. It has shaped and contoured armrests. The unique color and grains of the hard wood chosen to make this rocking chair ensures that no two rocking chairs are alike. You can find out details about this type of chairs in the internet or in the shops in your locality.
