Convert Septic Tank To Worm Breeding Farm
A word on Worm Farming
Worm Farming is an art of recycling the biodegradable wastages into useful forms of soil resources. As chemical fertilizers and pesticides decreases the natural fertility of the soil, worm farming is the best way of increasing the agriculture efficiency. One can achieve preservation of natural soil resources for further use. Household wastages such as food wastages can be recycled. Through worm farming, food wastage can be converted into a rich, dark, earth-smelling soil conditioner. It improves the soil structure. Within a limited space, any one can start this profitable business with less investment. Worm farming is all about the breeding, raising and marketing the worms and worm related products. It improves the soil fertility, moisture retention and also the soil life, activity and plant growth.
Septic Tanks and Worm Farming
Septic tank is a system that can be used for bacterial, biological, chemical or physical treatment of sewage. This system includes beds, sewers, drains, fitting, appliances and land used. There are two types of septic tanks, aerobic and anaerobic. Anaerobic systems generate foul smell of Methane and Hydrogen Sulphide gases. Aerobic systems generate carbon dioxide and water. Septic tanks are the closed systems so that no other water content should enter it. No other bacteria should enter the tank until the waste water leaves the tank and enters the soak pit. Then organic solid should be removed. The bacteria present in the septic tank are the anaerobic stomach bacteria. These bacteria secrete slime like mucus that protects them from oxygen. When it contacts with the soak pit soil, it secretes this slime in large amount eventually blocking the pores of the soil. Then these soil pores allow waste water again when the mucus goes for the filtration process.
Periodic maintenance is required for septic tanks for their better operation. There should be frequent pumping every two to four years. After pumping, the tank should be filled with the clean water with plenty of limes to prevent odours and to increase the pH for bacterial growth. If not properly maintained, septic tanks may generate bad odours causing health and environmental concerned disorders.
