Growing Greens In Vegetable Garden

Lettuce crops are becoming more popular now days. These are being popular because of its advantages such as they are nice in taste, as you can't store or transport lettuce you have to grow them in the local fields. These are easy to grow. The most important thing is that they contain high minerals, vitamins and fibers.

To start:

As lettuce is the cool environment crop the best season to harvest them is of fall or spring. Lettuce seeds require light to germinate hence cover the seed hardly with soil. After near about couple of weeks observe the roots whether root have branched to the side of the plug and if they branched then they are barely enough to go in the ground.

To place them out do not let them become too large.

Care of green crops:

* If the land is fertile then no need to feed them explicitly. This is the plant which will not get affected by extra nitrogen.

* Here in this case well rotted manure or compost is the ideal case.

* As the plant has shallow root system it needs regular water.

* To avoid slugs don't keep the area dump.

* The plant matures rapidly it is perfect for intensive gardening method which gets lot of attention recently.

* If you have planted seasonal plants already you may take this plant in succession or you may closely.

* Lettuce can harvest in the container or can harvest as the border for decoration.

* If due to bad weather, your lettuce is about to securing then you can replant them in home. But you need to keep watering.

Green Harvesting:

* If you want the longest harvesting of the plant you just need to plant them near about every 7-10 days.

* Seeds of this plant can be planted in the wide rows or spaced around 8-12" apart. Spacing is necessary if you want to grow them in head.

* If you are interested in the head; then take care that harvest the plant before head stars elongating, this means they are becoming bolt and hence test will suffer.

* Time will need to be mature and hence make it difficult to grow without bolting than the loose leaf verity.
