Harvesting Vegetables

Harvesting vegetables at correct time is an essential process since the vegetables will not taste good when you harvest them in pre matured state or delayed state. If you grow in your home garden then harvest them on the day you want to eat. Early morning is the best time for harvesting vegetables.

You should harvest the beets when the outer leaves are tender and green. Normally beets are ready to harvest after 3 to 4 months from planting. Young beets are tastier and if they mature they will lose the flavor and the central portion of them will become hard.

You can harvest beans within 12 weeks. If it is dwarf beans then harvest them in 10th week. If it is a climbing beans then harvest hem in 12th week. You should not harvest beans in too hot or too cold climate. You can pick them when the seeds are not fully developed. You can harvest cabbage from 12th to 15th week. The vegetable must be firm and the leaf in outer side should be green enough to harvest.

You can harvest carrots in the early stage. Normally small carrots are sweeter. But if you do not use them immediately leave them in the ground. Before harvesting carrots, sprinkle water in the soil so that it will be easier to pull the carrots. If the carrots are too strong and large then pull them carefully by holding the greens in the top.

Harvesting cucumber in the early stage is better. Tender cucumbers are tastier than grown ones. You can harvest onions in any stage. But he hot climate is suitable for onion harvesting. You can dry them in sun light after harvesting to remove the dirt. Peas should be harvested immediately after maturity. Otherwise they will become tasteless. Potatoes can be harvested at any time. Small or baby potatoes taste well. Once you leave the baby potatoes to grow then the large potatoes can be harvested that too will be tastier. However hot climate is ideal for potato harvesting.

Harvesting tomatoes when they are bright red in color will get you more market. Though green tomatoes care also used in cooking, red tomatoes have wide market. Therefore you can harvest them at the stage they ripe. You can harvest pepper at any stage you want.
