Having own herbal garden can be fun and pleasing. You can do so many things with herbs like herbal crafts, herbal seasoning and herbal teas. Herbs are used from many centuries for various reasons like medicinal, culinary and especially for its aroma. In modern days herbs are used in beauty products and medicines but still culinary herbs are widely used.

Same as other gardens, first thing you need to finalize is location of garden. Location of herbal garden entirely depends upon which kind of herbs you want to grow. But most herbs grow well in partial shade. Avoid places like full shade or full sunny places.

Now what kind of herbs you want to plant. Firstly decide reason you are planting herbal garden is for cooking, fragrance or teas or something else or all of these. This will decide what herbs you should plant in your garden. If it is for cooking then you can plant herbs which you are currently using. Then do some research on each specific herb you want to plant. You can get all this information easily on internet.

Once you decide which herb you are going to plant then make a plan or decide pattern in which you want to grow all these herbs. You should have detail information of all herbs like height of herb, foliage and flower color and most important spacing require. You will find all this information in gardening books. Decide what shape of bed; remember that it should be accessible. You can have island bed (you can access this bed from all sides) or border bed (you can access this bed only from front).

Sketch the layout of your garden on paper, place your herbs according to their sizes, shapes, how they compliment each other. Give more emphasis on how two plants compliments each other and spacing between two plants.

Now plant your herb garden as per your sketch; you can start with hardy herbs like parsley or chives. You can vary herbs as per season changes. You will definitely start to harvest fresh organic herb from your own herbal garden.
