How To Clean Up Renovation Dust
Renovation work is associated with a lot of dust and dirt. The renovated home appears very graceful and attractive, but at the same time cleaning up the dust after renovation is a very painful task. Dust and fumes is one of the important sources of causing hazards. You should avoid creating them and also control them wherever possible. Protect your eyes by wearing safety glasses and goggles, use hats, gloves for safety reasons.
1. While cleaning the dusty area, the dust should be kept within the dust area only. Don't spread it all over the house. You can carry the dust on tools, clothing, demolition materials, etc. you can use an industrial vacuum cleaner for cleaning the dust instead of shaking them.
2. Your cleaning process will be made easier, if you clean up the work site regularly by the end of the day or the work session. The waste must be removed instantly from the work area. This prevents gathering and accumulation of the dust, which is later very difficult to clean.
3. Dry sweeping stirs up the dust. Instead, dampen the dust by spraying some water from the spray bottle. This helps to clean up the dust easily and also quickly. The dust will not fly away and get stuck to the watery cloth or the sponge. Remember, to use waterproof gloves while washing. The plastic sheets can be washed with sponges and water.
4. The waste materials like the rags, mops, paper towels, shoe covers, etc should be collected at one place and wrapped in a plastic bag and taped firmly. This should be done in the work area only, so that if, spillage any, can be cleaned up during the cleaning process only.
5. You can use a dry or a wet vacuum for vacuuming the cleaning solution. Keep 2 inches of water in the canister for holding the lead dust. Use this only to vacuum the washed or rinsed water and not for picking the dry dust or paint chips.
6. The area should be rinsed with clean water. Have 2 different buckets, one with a cleaning solution and the other with clean water for rinsing. Vacuum the work area again and repeat the cleaning process to remove any lead dust that might have settled
