Insects In Vegetable Garden
While working in the garden the most common problem is of the insects. But for this we have to note one thing is that all insects which we find in the garden are not harmful but few among all those are harmful to your garden. Along with this effect can be reduced to more extend with the help of little prevention, control and tolerance.
To start this you have to make sure that your plants are healthy as well as growing vigorously for these make use of adequate use of compost. Along with this make ensure that drainage is more and keep rotational planting. Increase bio-diversity in your garden by planting small scale of same vegetable in the same place. To reduce over wintering of insects; remove vegetable rebuff from garden and compost it properly.
Encourage natural controls to remove toads, birds, predatory and the parasitic insects. To do these make use of members from the family umbelliferae like dill. These are good to attract the parasitic wasps. While doing this make sure that you are killing the insect and not a pest; or let it become the pests because some insects are helpful. These helpful insects are tiger beetle or rove, pirate, etc.
When you are going to control the specific insects directly then make use of barriers or home made natural repellant solution, handpicks or traps. Some of the peoples says that some plants for instance marigold keeps the insects away but it does not work that much effectively.
To get rid from the insects such as moth or butterfly larvae use the insecticide or pesticides in small amount rather than using the clouds of this on the infected plant, as well as do not use natural insecticides in wide range.
While caring about your garden do not take extreme care, if some part has been affected then cut that much part and let the plant tolerate the condition. But some situation comes where you are efforts are becoming less. Here are some insects which infects your garden
* Imported cabbageworm- Generally found on cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, etc.
* Corn Earworm or European corn borer- Found on corn ears.
* Tomato Hornworm- occurs on tomato plants.
