For making the nights bright so that we can remain active even at the nights, the electrical lights have long back replaced the other things. Many different technologies are used these days for this purpose. They are the incandescent lights halogen lamp, fluorescent lamp LED lamps etc.

The incandescent lights emit yellowish colored light. They are cheaper and therefore still most popular. However, they have lower efficiency than the other technologies. They contain a filament of some very high resistance material generally tungsten. When the electric current passes through it, it will heat up and emit energy in the form of light.

The fluorescent lamps contain a mixture of mercury and phosphorous vapor. They work together for the production of light. They emit white colored light. They have high efficiency than the fluorescent lights. Both the incandescent and the fluorescent lights are used for the lighting the houses.

The LED lights are also emerging as an option for the use of light in the house.

The other types of lights like the halogen lamps metal halide sulfur sodium lights etc are also available in the market. However, they are not for the common use in the houses. However, they are used for special purposes. They emit colorful light and therefore they are used for the decorative purposes.

All these work on electricity and therefore for connecting them to the electric supply we have to use the accessories for them. For example the lamp holders are common accessories for bring the lights in contact with the electric supply. They can be used for the incandescent lamps, compact florescent lamps, LED lamps and some of the other types as well as the sodium lamps or the halogen lamps. The fluorescent lights require ballasts and fixtures. They require a very high voltage shock during the start, which is provided by the ballast.

In addition to these necessary requirements, for the lights to work many decorative accessories are also used by the people.
