While renovating your old house, the first thing to consider is that to construct it in a way that will suit your lifestyle. Many of the old homes may have features that might not suit your latest lifestyle. You need to be creative while renovating.

While renovating any house, you should always consider the six phases called as the natural life-cycle. The phases are explained in detail below:

1. Designing and Planning- The house is going to be yours and there are a variety of possibilities to be included in your renovation plans. What you have to do is go through all of them, access each one and then select a single from that list to be used in your house. This selection depends upon your needs, suitability and above all, your Budget. Prepare a master plan with the help of an architecture and then stick to it. Make changes, if any, on the paper itself before starting your work actually.

2. Demolition- the second phase is the destruction stage where walls and ceilings come in contact with the floor. To install the new, you have to rip out the old. It is a therapeutic stage where your will power is tested. You just have to be patient and follow your plans.

3. Framing- It is a stage where the new walls are built up, after the heart-touching demolition stage. The ceiling can be carved in designs, you wish.

4. Electrical, Plumbing and HVAC- This process is very tedious and takes a long time. It has to be done by the professionals. It forms the base-bone of the house that is placed in the ceilings, floors or walls of the house. You have to decide where you want the different appliances and their connections. If you do not speak now, you will have to hold your peace forever. For e.g. want a phone connection in the kitchen, want an extra outlet for installing the stereo, a night lamp near your bed, etc, then it is the time for wiring them. You have to decide very fast at this level.

5. Plastering- After placing the insulations in the walls, then its time to plaster them.

6. Finishing- This includes installing the cabinets and the fixtures, finishing the carpentry work, floor finishing, painting the walls and wall paper. And, finally your renovated dream home is ready for use.
