Beans, corn, Okra, cucumber are some of the tender crops. These crops can not tolerate the climate changes. Heavy rain fall or winter can damage the crops. Thus they require special care to grow. You can plant these crops according to the soil temperature. Soil must be dried enough to plant the crops. You can start planting tender crops in late spring season.

There are some very tender vegetable crops like egg plants, tomato, and water melon and so on. They can not with stand frost and spring winds. Day temperature below 55 degree is ideal for planting these crops.

Growing tomatoes in your vegetable garden:

Tomatoes are very tender crops and they will be damaged by a light frost itself. It needs warm temperature and so plant them in adequately warm soil. You should also employ some frost protection technique to protect your crops. You can use black plastic mulch to warm the soil. In the month of May tomato plants start grow healthily. The root will become strong. You should plant tomatoes with adequate spaces. Crowded tomato plants will not yield adequate result and this will also increase diseases.

You can include iron mesh to protect the tomato plants from weather. Plastic mulching along with cage will help the plant to grow fast. During heavy winds you can wrap the cage with paper or plastic sheets to protect the crops. You should water the tomato crops heavily. Use sprinklers to water the plants gently. Water them in the morning so that the plant will be dried at night time. This will help the crop to grow fast. In turn if you water in the evening then the water will not dry at night and can produce fungus. This will result in various plant diseases.

Lettuce and other leafy vegetables are very tender crops so that you need to take adequate care to protect them. You can apply grass clipping among them. Apply thin layer of grass and allow them to dry before applying the next layer. You can also use news papers under the clippings to control weeds. For corn crops also you can mulch them with news paper and use grass clipping to protect the crop from weather.
