Remodeling Plans
Before you undertake any remodeling project, be sure you have a well thought out and easy to follow set of remodeling plans. Creating your remodeling plans can be one of the most fun and exciting part of the remodeling process. Depending on the remodeling project, your remodeling plans may take on several forms. Larger remodeling jobs require professionally executed remodeling plans. The requirement of professional remodeling plans may be due to the need for building permits and codes. But this doesn't mean that you can't participate in the early, all important designing stages of your remodeling plans.
When you first have even the inkling that you want to remodel some portion of your home or office, you might be wise to begin doodling some of your early ideas. Then later on, you can build on these quickly drafted sketches and develop them into more detailed plans. Lets say you have decided that you need some additional storage space. First your have to decide if you want to hide things in this new space or display things in your new storage area. Well, this is a perfect example of how your initial rough draft plans come into play.
Okay, you say to yourself, you want storage space in the living room for books and precious items that your children have given to you over the years. Now you come to the fun part. Remodeling plans for the addition of shelves and cupboards for your living room. You can start by sketching the living room as it is. Then notice if there is wall space available to accommodate new storage shelves. If not, then some furniture rearranging will be necessary. A fun way to approach creating your remodeling plans in this case would be to cut out shapes that represent the furniture you have, draw the living room to scale with doors and windows and create a set of remodeling plans that are changeable. Place the furniture in different arrangements and see where your new storage shelves would fit best. Then when you are happy with an arrangement, you can carefully draw your remodeling plans with everything in place and follow the plan exactly. Of course, your remodeling plans don't dictate whether or not your shelves and cupboards will be permanently attached to the wall as built-ins or whether they will be free standing units that you can move around if you choose.
On a larger scale, let's say your remodeling project is to convert attic space into a teenager's bedroom and study suite, complete with bathroom. This project is complex and will require architectural remodeling plans, but you and your family can do some brainstorming and draw up some informal ideas about what you want and where you want it. You don't have to be an engineer to come up with the ideas. Your remodeling plans can be as simple or complete as you like. They can be rough or to scale. You might end up with three separate sets of remodeling plans for this project and want to get construction estimates for each before you decide on which set of plans to take to the architect. Your remodeling plans give you a chance to take an active part in the design of whatever remodeling project you will be working on and whether you do the work yourself or you hire professionals to do it for you, remodeling plans are a critical part of the remodeling process.
