A Verandah as per the Oxford English Dictionary is a word that originated in India and refers to the railings, balustrade or balconies. In simpler words, it is an open roofed porch or gallery built around a building in the centre. A verandah is a large balcony built on the ground floor and it is commonly known as barandah in Hindi and Bengali, two native Indian languages.

There is another surprising meaning in the Oxford English Dictionary, which means, Verandah is a covering built at the side of the building, particularly one built over the street outside the trading site .This is found particularly in Australia and New Zealand. There is yet another meaning to this word in the dictionary, it is, an open porch extending in the front and the sides of a building, giving protection against the sun and the rain. The decisive origin of this word is most probably European or maybe Latin meaning barra-, which means barrier.

The flooring for the verandah in today's time has undergone tremendous changes. Steel decking is a great option to timbre flooring, which is very cumbersome to maintain and expensive. It tends to get infested with termite, and rots in the rain.

There are different deck systems in steel which are very attractive and suitable for homes built on elevation, they are complete with fluted joists and come in different colours. The long-term durability is also very good as they not affected by moisture and termites.

These deck boards can be screwed with wing teak screws and can be used in areas prone to bush-fires. They can be easily connected to steel and timber posts. They can be constructed like a ground floor and an upper floor. The width of the decks determines the cost effectiveness.

If posts are needed to support the roof above or for balustrading, it can be done from either the deck level or run from the ground level to the roof level. You can use either steel or timber posts with steel decks. Thus, steel decks are becoming immensely popular in the field of flooring material.
