Working with used wire decking in a storage facility can help keeps costs under control, provided the proper precautions are taken before you buy it. Previous use and condition are two of the main factors to consider as they can affect the life and safety of the shelving.

Wire decking comes in a variety of sizes to fit your needs, whether it's indoor or outdoor use, and can be painted to your specifications. The welded wire will withstand some punishment and is connected to supports to fit between your metal racking systems. Used wire decking often offers the same support and strength but at a lower initial cost.

Used wire decking requires some thought before purchasing, like whether it was previously used outdoors or is there a lot of rust on the pieces. Galvanized decking is available along with painted, and, if you're buying used wire decking, is the paint in good condition or will you have to spray it again before using it?

Cost of Used Wire Decking

Cost is another consideration with used wire decking, on average it is about $16 for a 4" by 6" deck, where a new piece the same size would run close to $22 on average. Price, of course, will depend on the distributor from which you purchase the decking. Oftentimes, due to the placement of decking, you may want to stick with new wire, especially if it will be in view of customers or the public.

Whether you're looking for used wire decking for pallet stacking or walkways, there are several varieties to choose from and several different suppliers who will be happy to work with you to make sure you get the best decking to suit your needs. Safety considerations should also be viewed if you plan on load-bearing decking for storage where the weight may not be evenly distributed.

This type of decking can also be used for commercial purposes other than storage. For example it can be used as a base for washing materials where quick water runoff is necessary. By placing the decking on supports with proper drainage under it, items can be placed on the used wire decking and sprayed with no accumulation of water on or under the items being cleaned.

Another advantage of wire decking is that it is basically stronger than wood – as the load is spread out and not concentrated on one or two areas, is easier to care for, and cheaper over time.
